Wig Price Guide: What Each Budget Actually Buys

Wig prices look chaotic until you group them by what the money actually buys. We sorted our entire catalog - every style from 8 official brand stores - into three tiers, and the pattern is consistent: lace quality and cap construction step up at $100 and again at $200. Here is what each tier delivers and who it is for.

Under $100: honest basics

Budget wigs are real human hair with standard caps and machine-made wefts. The lace is usually 4x4 closure or a basic front that needs blending work. Density hovers around 150%. This is the right tier for a backup wig, a costume look, or testing whether a brand's cap fits your head before committing to its premium lines.

$100-$200: the sweet spot

Mid-range is where 13x4 lace fronts, 180% density and glueless construction become standard rather than upsells. Most first-time buyers should shop here: the step up from budget is immediately visible at the hairline, and the step up from here is mostly about lace transparency and exotic textures you may not need.

$200 and up: pay for the lace, not the label

Premium wigs buy you HD or invisible lace that melts without heavy customization, larger lace coverage (13x6, 360), and rarer textures like raw Burmese or deep curly. If you wear wigs daily or film content, the hairline realism is worth it. If you wear one twice a month, the mid-range tier is the smarter spend.

FAQ

Do higher-density wigs always look better?

No. Above 200% density wigs start looking costume-like unless the style calls for it. 150-180% is the natural-looking range for most styles.

Are outlet or clearance wigs worth it?

They can be - but check why they are discounted: discontinued styles are fine, "only 1 per style" live-outlet events often hide flaws. We exclude outlet stock from our catalog.

What does the price not include?

Customization: bleaching knots, plucking the hairline, cutting the lace. Some brands offer it pre-done at checkout - that is usually worth the extra $10-20 for beginners.
